Regular eye examinations are important because your eyes don’t usually “hurt” when something is wrong. An eye examination is a vital health check for your eyes that can pick up early signs of eye conditions before you’re aware of any symptoms – many of which can be treated if found early enough.

At London Eye Optique Opticians our resident optometrist Anne O’Donnell F.A.O.I. (Hons) BSc will provide you with a thorough eye examination that usually lasts approximately 30 minutes. The examination will determine your:

  • Visual Acuity – Measures the accuracy of your vision.
  • Binocular Vision- Determines how well your eyes coordinate and function together.
  • Refraction- Tests for the refractive error of your eyes this determines the power of your spectacles, it can vary between hyperopia, presbyopia, myopia and astigmatism or often a combination.

 

Ocular health is also a crucial part of your examination we can also check for various and systemic pathological conditions such as:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Macula degeneration
  • Retinal detachment
  • Diabetic symptoms

 

Retinal imaging takes a digital fundus photograph of the eye and is used to detect and evaluate signs of the above conditions (see the image below that shows the interior of a healthy eye).

Additional tests will also be performed on a individual basis when neccessary such as a visual fields analysis, intraocular pressures, pupil dilation and colour vision testing.

Once we have examined your eyes we will then give you suitable advice on your corrective spectacle prescription and advice of your ocular health, based on these results we can advise you how often you should attend.
